Frequently Asked Questions
What if I'm not sure about my Irish ancestry?
We're happy to help you research your Irish heritage. Many members have discovered their Irish roots through the application process. Contact us and we can provide guidance on genealogical resources.
How much are annual dues?
Dues amounts vary by membership type and age category. Please contact our membership chairman for current rates. We strive to keep dues affordable while supporting our charitable mission.
How often do you meet?
Our division holds regular monthly meetings, plus additional social events, charitable activities, and cultural programs throughout the year. Attendance requirements are reasonable and accommodate busy schedules.
Can my wife or daughters join?
While the Ancient Order of Hibernians is a men's organization, we have a sister organization called the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) for women of Irish descent. We can provide information about LAOH divisions in our area.
What if I'm new to Savannah?
We especially welcome newcomers! The AOH is a great way to meet people, get connected in the community, and find a home away from home. Many of our members relocated to Savannah from other areas.
Do I need to speak Irish or know Irish history?
Not at all! While we celebrate and teach Irish culture, no prior knowledge is required. Part of our mission is education, and you'll learn about Irish history, traditions, and even some Gaelic phrases through your membership.
